Nashville Pictage User Group Meeting (TNPUG)
September 14, 2006 | Filed Under Uncategorized | 2 Comments
We snapped this picture in the parking lot as 11 of us dwindled down to 5 and stood around talking for almost an extra hour after the meeting ended tonight. L to R is Mindy & Phil, Whitney & Peter and of course I am in there too.
We had a great meeting talking about the upcoming holiday promotions that Pictage is going to run making sales appealing to our clients and profitable for our studios. Oh man, I can’t tell you how much I am in love with Pictage. They just take my photography and put it over the top with clever products and great business sense. I am fortunate to partner with them.

We had an unexpected blessing yesterday. Derek & Rhonda stopped by our house to visit with their three adorable boys - Myles, Mason & Maxwell. Brad and I had fun catching up - it’s been a few years since Derek, Brad & I all worked at the Boys & Girls Club.
Myles just started Kindergarten this year. He and I share the same birthday of August 14, and I remember how excited I was when he was born. He will always have a special place in my heart.
Mason is 3, and he is just like Derek. He wasn’t afraid to jump off out of our treehouse while we were all talking- very brave. He enjoyed picking and throwing pears off of our pear tree for Katy (the dog) to chase after.
Maxwell is the baby - his first birthday is coming up in just a few months. This was our first time to meet him in person, and he is a sweet baby. He was so laid back, and friendly. He let Brad and I both hold him with no fuss.
We are so happy to have had a nice visit, and we look forward to a real photo session in just a few short weeks! Love you guys!
Bynum Photography accepted into Wedding Photojournalist Association (WPJA)

I am pleased to announce that I have been accepted into the Wedding Photojournalist Association (WPJA).
I can’t explain how excited I was to feel my Blackberry buzzing while I was in LA and reach down and receive the email.
As the website states: “WPJA Wedding Photographers are an elite group. The Wedding Photojournalist Association is a highly screened, critical organization. Less than 5% of wedding photographers out there qualify for membership.”
I give God the glory for this amazing achievement, and I am excited about the future opportunities that being a WPJA member will provide.
Huntsville Wedding - Congratulations Drew & Christine!

We had a fabulous day in Huntsville, Alabama for Drew & Christine’s wedding at Annabella at Cedar Glen. I was fortunate to have the talented and lovely Andrea Hallgren along to second shoot with me today. We had so much fun working together. It’s great to be in a community of photographers that believes in sharing and helping each other and we all benefit from it.
Drew & Christine had a beautiful wedding. Their details were in a beautiful “persimmon” color, that carried beautifully through their flowers, cakes, dresses, even Christine’s crinoline (petticoat/slip thing under her dress, for the wedding illiterate…).
The first five shots are mine, and the last four are Andrea’s.
Slideshow and a few more pics coming soon…
Congratulations guys. Your wedding was precious - just like you! Thanks for letting us share it with you.

Our second day of the conference was even better than the first, but I will update you about all of that once we get home. We have to leave the hotel in about 15 minutes to return our car and get checked in and buy t-shirts and candy for our flight. :o)
But - last night we went to the beach. Even though it was cloudy, we still had fun running around and getting soaked and sandy and laughing a lot!
This has been a great trip and we are thrilled to have been here. Now we can turn our attention back to coming home and applying all of this knowledge.
I am excited to get home and rest up because I am heading to Alabama tomorrow morning for Drew & Christine’s wedding at Annabella at Cedar Glen. Andrea will be coming along as my second shooter, and I am thrilled because she is a fabulous photographer on her own and I can’t wait to work with her again. See you soon!
Pictage Partner Conference, Day 1 Take 2

Tonight we enjoyed a night out with the top down. We cruised through Beverly Hills to Rodeo Drive and walked around the stores like Chanel, BCBG, Stuart Weitzman, Coach, Ralph Lauren, Cartier, etc. We had dinner at Lawry’s (Brad - as in Mike Lawry’s…) and then headed to Hollywood. We walked around at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre and the Kodak Theatre before coming back to the hotel. The photo of John Wayne’s handprints & footprints in front of the Chinese Theatre are for Brad and George Bynum - two of the biggest John Wayne fans I know.
It was a great night. We are having a blast.
I guess, since it is 2:29AM Nashville time, that it is time to go to sleep. We have more learning to do tomorrow!
Pictage Partner Conference, Day 1 Take 1

It has been a full day so far and we’re just getting ready to head out to Rodeo Drive for the evening. Some of these photo highlights include: Mike Colon’s presentation andJessica Claire & Liana Lehman’s X-perience the Money through Marketing & Sales presentation. These were my top two favorite sessions today.
The next couple of photos are the display of Holli & Scott’s Wedding Album that I designed and that was a Finalist in the Pictage Album Design Contest. We didn’t win first prize, but it is still thrilling to be nominated and displayed for everyone to view!
The last photo is of my interview for the new Pictage Podcast, which will be launched after the conference. Stay tuned for a link to hear the interview in the coming weeks. More photos by morning!
Hollywood Here We Come!

Well, we made it safe and sound to Los Angeles and it is sunny and 72 degrees this morning. We have a few more minutes until we have to be downstairs for our first workshop (we’re here to WORK, remember?) so I thought I would catch you up on our trip so far.
We left Nashville with no trouble. Not even one of us had to do extra security checks, no one made a scene over lip gloss or sewing scissors, and our gate was the first one in the concouse. It was very easy. Then, as we were boarding the plane, Mom spotted EmmyLou Harris about to get on the flight ahead of us. We were excited, and Steph told us how she and her son Fletcher had just been listening to her music the night before. We boarded the plane, and to our surprise she sat down in the aisle seat of our row. So I sat by the window, Mom sat in the middle, EmmyLou sat on the aisle, and Steph sat on the opposite aisle.
EmmyLou obviously wasn’t interested in talking, as she put her ipod headphones on and got out a book (The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell, which I have read and is a great book!) so we didn’t bother her. I snuck that paparazzi-style shot with my point & shoot camera just for kicks.
Anyway, we had a non-stop four hour flight, which got a little long, but we made it safe and sound. We dropped in at the OSP Forum party and said hello, but then got some dinner because we were starving. We crashed as soon as we got to our room.
Check back in for more updates this afternoon and evening. After a full day of classes, we’ll be going out to Hollywood tonight, so I am sure we’ll have some more to report.
