Addie Mei’s 2 Year Portraits

March 10, 2007 | Filed Under kids | 5 Comments

I got lots of great feedback on the beautiful photo of Addie Mei from the baby shower post a few days ago. She is a hilarious child and it has been fun to watch her grow and change and develop into her own little personality since she arrived home from China to her new family in September of 2006. I hung out with Addie Mei & her Mom Leslie on Friday and here are some of our beautiful results!

Addie is so loved and it shows all over her face. For a comparison, here are some pictures from the airport in September when she arrived in the US with her new family, the Overby’s.

Shooting with Stephanie Edens, Cooper and Cody

I went out to McMinnville today to hang out/assist my friend Stephanie Edens in her new studio. It looks SO beautiful and I cannot wait to see the awesome images that are going to be created in that place. Today we shot 3 week old Cody and his 15 month old big brother Cooper. Here’s a shot of Steph in action with Cody…

While Steph worked with Cody, Cooper and I were exploring and we ended up on this fun red footstool. I love this shot.

Here’s a few of baby Cody that I took. He was a trooper…Steph got some precious shots of him curled up on a cowhide with a saddle.

Stephanie - I love you girl and I am so proud of you. YOU are a ROCK STAR!

First shots with my new camera…I think I’m in LOVE

March 7, 2007 | Filed Under Uncategorized | 3 Comments

Of course you can see who my willing (or not-so-willing) subjects were today when my new camera arrived via FedEx around 10AM. My dog Katy was napping with her duck. Then I looked up and saw my 14 year-old cat Misty curled up in my chair underneath a blanket and I had to get the camera back out to capture that sweet face.

Along with the camera, we received our Lensbaby, which is a fun selective focus lens that allows me to get some creative, artistic shots. The shot of the daffodils (WELCOME SPRING) was taken using the Lensbaby in my front yard. I am sure my neighbors thought I was nuts when I was laying on my stomach on my sidewalk and in my front yard this afternoon to figure out the proper way to use this lens. But hey - it was sunny and 70 degrees. Well worth the strange looks!

New addition to the BynumPhoto Team

I bet you were expecting a person…ha ha. My trusty 20D caught the “spastic shutter” disease at the end of Landon’s Birthday Party on Saturday afternoon. I started thinking about it, and I am certain that there are well over 150,000 clicks on this camera in the two years I have owned it, and so it’s about time for a major repair. We’ll see just how much the repair will be…if it is a significant investment, we’ll be purchasing a 30D to add to the backup arsenal, instead of demoting the 20D.

I get a lot of questions regarding my choices for camera equipment and also where I go to do it. I have always been very satisfied with Canon cameras, lenses and flash units. When I buy online, I order from B & H Photo, a very reputable dealership in New York. When I buy locally, I go to Dury’s in downtown Nashville. They are working hard to keep their prices competitive with online dealers like B&H - and you get their excellent personal customer service AND the ability to try out equipment in the store before you make a purchase. We were in there today to ship out my 20D for repairs, and my brain went into sensory overload the moment I walked in the door.

I spent Monday-Wednesday in Indianapolis, Indiana for an OSP conference and had a great time of fun and learning with my colleagues.

Tuesday night when the work was done, we all went Duckpin Bowling. It was like stepping back in time. Here are a few details.

It is SO important to involve yourself in a community of like-minded individuals in your industry. Every time I am with these people (no matter when or where) I find myself refreshed, enlightened, educated, and amazed. I love OSP!
