I know, I know - Website down for Server Upgrade

November 16, 2006 | Filed Under blah blah blah | Leave a Comment

Received this email at 10PM last night…

“This is a notice that we will be running a server upgrade at midnight EST tonight. During this time your website will be down for 3 to 6 hours. For most of us this will be during sleep hours. You will not lose any data or e-mails during that time. The result should be a faster and more reliable server. We are very sorry for the inconvenience and any of the recent issues that have occurred with this server. Thank you for your understanding in this matter.”

It is 7:20AM Central and it is still down. So, if you need to reach me by email today, please use my personal address, alison.bynum@comcast.net. And if you have referred friends to me, please let them know to look at this blog because they won’t find me on the web. I haven’t closed up shop or anything - just an upgrade to serve you better!

The Cast is the Photographer’s Must Have Accessory of the Season

November 10, 2006 | Filed Under blah blah blah, personal | 1 Comment

Ha Ha. Here’s a funny shot of me and my dear friend Amber Holritz at the OSP-South Conference on Monday. We both are modeling the black wrist cast, which all of the coolest photographers are sporting this season.

Actually, I just went to the Doctor yesterday (shout-out to the wonderful Dr. Steinagle) and he prescribed two more weeks in the short cast. So I now have a bubble gum pink cast until the Monday after Thanksgiving. Then it will be a velcro brace for a while combined with physical therapy and I will be good as new.

When I get a decent photo of the pink cast I will post it. For now enjoy the pic of Amber and me modeling our clumsiness.

OSP-South Group Shot

Stole this pic from OSP and it was taken by Nathan with the timer.

We had a great two day conference in Chattanooga on Mon-Tues. But I am home working on personal stuff and buckling down to get images out the door.

**EDIT** Yes, that’s me in the front with the awesome cast, and No, I am not flipping anyone off. Also, this was our group from the group photo shoot, which was only 1/4 of the attendees.

VOTE!

If you haven’t done so already, I encourage you to vote today. I think the polls close at 7PM (maybe at 8?) but if you’re in line at that time then you will still get to stay and vote. JUST DO IT!

OSP-South Conference Day 1

I am hanging out in my hotel room in downtown Chattanooga reflecting on my day with all my friends from OSP Forums. It is really just ridiculous that you can form relationships with other people through online communities, but it happens before you know it. There are a hundred photographers from across the country who have gathered here for some fun and learning.

This morning kicked off with a fabulous presentation by Nathan Holritz, unveiling some of his new interface for Photographers Office, a web-based application for photographers to help them manage their workflow.

I went to the Big River Grille for a late lunch with Stan, Charlotte, Jason, Matt & Sarah, Leann and Jill and we all got to know each other by swapping tips and tricks and lots of stories.

After our lunch, we went to the Chattanooga Choo-Choo for a group photo shoot. These photos above are a few quick favorites from today. Nam was the model for our shoot, and I know it was challenging to keep a straight face for all of us, but he did a fabulous job.

We enjoyed dinner at the yummy Sushi Nabe restaurant (Boston Roll=delicious) and then went to Garrett & Joy’s new studio for dessert.

More pics and posts tomorrow.

Where Are You?

November 2, 2006 | Filed Under blah blah blah, commercial | Leave a Comment

It cracks me up at the amount of email and phone messages I racked up in two days, and how many of them said “Alison, where are you???” I am usually SO fast at responding to emails and phone calls because I am working in front of my computer all day. I spent the last two days working with Andrew Niesen of LaCour at David Lipscomb University here in Nashville. Andrew was shooting around campus for the new viewbook and other admissions materials and I assisted him with his equipment (I know you’re laughing since I have a broken wrist) and setting his light, etc.

It was really fun and I learned a lot just by watching another professional work. He has great interactions with his clients, and the students and administrators all felt very comfortable with him. The images I saw him create were amazing. And, I got a great workout because we definitely did not travel light. We had lots of extra gear in comparison to what I use when shooting a wedding.

So to answer your question, that’s where I have been the past two days. Sadly, I have NO pictures to share because I had way too much to do to try and carry an extra camera along, but you’ll just have to trust me when I say it was fun.

Everybody Loves Puppies

Meet my Mom & StepDad’s 10 AKC Lab Puppies. They are 4 weeks old, and there are still a few left if you’re interested.

More pics HERE.

Spending the whole day at home today. I have lots of editing and uploading to do, not to mention catching up on laundry, etc. after my trip. And it’s so cold here today, that I don’t mind staying cozy in my pj’s and fuzzy slippers to do just that!

Last Day in Philadelphia

October 22, 2006 | Filed Under blah blah blah, personal | 1 Comment

Well. we slept in this morning, and then checked out of the hotel and ventured into downtown Philadelphia to see a little of the city before we flew home today. We decided that having an authentic Philly Cheesesteak was of the utmost importance, so we went to Geno’s in South Philly and had lunch. It was well worth the trip.

We didn’t want Kyle to be late for his flight to Memphis (via Detroit - he’s hoping to watch a bit of the world series with other baseball fans there) so we came on to the airport in time to watch the end of the Eagles football game in a pub at the airport.

Our plane leaves in an hour, so we’re grabbing a soft pretzel and going to the gate.

Our Friday in Philadelphia

We had a lot of fun today in Philadelphia. It started out as a grey and dreary day. It was raining and the temperature fell steadily all day long. We picked up Kyle from the airport around 12, and then met Bill and Sheri at the Bent Elbo Tavern (where they met) for lunch.

As you can tell, the leaves have changed a lot more than in Tennessee right now. We scouted some photo locations after we finished eating.

We enjoyed the rehearsal at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral…it was a beautiful church. Then we ventured over to Bacco, an Italian restaurant near our hotel, for the rehearsal dinner. The menu was awesome there - they had some of the best antipasto salad and vodka pasta sauce I have ever eaten.

There is a chain of convenience stores up here called “Wawa” and they are also very cool. We got instant milkshakes on the way back to the hotel tonight.

See Mom’s Blog - Turner Farms for a few more pictures and hers/Kyle’s re-cap of our day. Can’t wait to shoot this wedding tomorrow!

PS. OH. We were excited to get on the plane in Nashville and run into our good friend Clay Cooper. He kept us company on the first leg of our trip. We got to see pics of some of his custom built furniture and his pets and family. Good to see you Clay!

Hello from Philadelphia!

Hey - My cast, my luggage, my mother and I all made it safely to Philadelphia today. We’re here to shoot Bill & Sheri’s wedding on Saturday.

Our hotel is conveniently located near a couple malls. SO, guess what we’ll be doing tonight? More later. There’s shopping to do!
